CO ROSCOMMON, Ireland - More than half a million euro worth of cannabis was seized during a major search on Monday and two middle-aged people, a man, and a woman were arrested.
The search, by officers from the Roscommon Divisional Drugs Unit assisted by gardai from Castlerea, was carried out under warrant as part of Operation Tara, in Ballaghaderreen, County Roscommon.
During the course of the search, a suspected cannabis growhouse was discovered.
Suspected cannabis plants with an estimated value of 288,000 were seized along with approximately 240,000 of processed cannabis.
All of the drugs seized are valued at approximately 528,000, pending analysis from Forensic Science Ireland.
A woman in her 50s and a man in his 60s were arrested at the scene. They have both been charged and are currently being detained at Castlerea Garda Station. They both appeared before a special sitting of Strokestown District Court at 6:30pm Tuesday evening.
Gardai say investigations are ongoing.
