DUBLIN, Ireland - Four men and two women have been arrested in Dublin on suspicion of money laundering and financing international terrorism.

Following an investigation by the Garda Special Detective Unit, the six Uzbek and Irish nationals were charged Tuesday morning after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) issued directions to bring approximately 200 charges.

Oybek Jabbarov, a former truck driver, is charged with 101 offenses.

Atica Umat, 68, Fatime Jabbarov, Oybek Jabbarov, Muhammad Amin, 37, Abdurahim Mhadhbi, 25, and Dawood Mhadhbi, 22, were all charged with money laundering in the 2010s.

Further charges have been filed against Atica Umat, Oybek Jabbarov, and Muhammad Amin under the Criminal Justice (Terrorist Offences) Act 2005 for collecting, receiving, or providing funds for the benefit of a terrorist group.

Mr. Jabbarov is the only person charged with directing the activities of a criminal organization from 2009 to 2019.

The six were charged at Garda stations throughout the city before being brought before Judge Bryan Smyth at Dublin District Court. No one objected to bail with conditions.

The DPP has ordered a higher-level indictment trial, and the judge has adjourned five cases until October 23, when prosecutors will serve them with books of evidence.

Mr. Jabbarov was remanded in custody due to a jurisdictional issue with bail for his additional charge of directing a criminal organization, which requires a High Court decision.

On September 19, he will appear in Cloverhill District Court for his next hearing.

His co-defendants were granted €500 bail with the following conditions: surrendering passports and not applying for travel documents, notifying gardai of any address changes, providing contact phone numbers, signing on at their local garda station regularly, and not transferring any money abroad.

Four defendants received legal aid, and the judge noted their financial statements and that some were unemployed. Abdurahim and Mhadhbi Dawood postponed filing for legal assistance.

Atica Umat's responses to some of her charges were: "It's not terrorism, it's my son; he has four wives," or "to my son, my family," and "he is my son, his wives have children," according to Judge Smyth. She did not respond to the remaining 18 charges.

Fatime Jabbarov was charged with 19 counts, and her responses included, "I sent it to my family, not terrorists."
