LISBON, Portugal - An international search has begun to find the Irish owners of a dog discovered abroad.
Arthur Guidez, the dog's current owner who lives in Portugal, was informed that his adorable black-grey female husky cross Dusty was stolen from her Irish family two years ago.
According to Cork Beo, he was informed during a routine vet checkup that Dusty was most likely brought to his hometown by pet smugglers, and he has since taken to social media to reunite her with her original family.
A desperate plea for more information on Dusty's original owners was made on Facebook to reunite her with her family.
"This black-grey adult female husky cross was discovered in Portugal," it says. Dusty is thought to have been stolen from an Irish family on vacation in Portugal about two years ago (could be longer)."
Dusty was born probably in 2016, but Arthur cannot access additional information on her Irish family due to data protection laws, and the phone number associated with the microchip is not answering calls.
Her dog's identification number is 187181.
It is possible, however, that the dog was stolen in Ireland and smuggled out of the country for resale abroad.
Garda has recently stopped vans carrying dogs bound for the UK and Europe at ferry ports.
Even if your pet is microchipped, it may not be easily traceable if left in the hands of European shelters.
Check out the Facebook page dedicated to Irish lost dogs if you recognize Dusty or have any potentially helpful information in reuniting her with her original family in Ireland.
