WEXFORD, Ireland - A restaurant in Wexford has shared a heartwarming story about two strangers that has "restored" people's faith in humanity.
On Wednesday, the American-themed restaurant Robs Ranch House on South Main Street shared the touching story on Facebook.
The post began by expressing the world's need for good news at a time when it appears to be in short supply.
It started: "Hi Folks... with all that is wrong in the world today, I feel compelled to share this story, a true story of a great act of kindness that another act of kindness will follow, something we definitely need more of in this world today."
"So basically, we had the pleasure of having this group from Waterford [...] who were enjoying their evening together."As they were about to finish their meal, a couple dining nearby got up to leave, and when they paid their bill, they told staff that they also wanted to pay the bill for that group. When the staff member informed them that the group's bill exceeded €200, they simply smiled and said, "That's fine, we still want to pay, and they did, and they just left."
The post then describes the group's emotional reaction when they learned their meal had been paid for.
"Shortly afterward, when the staff told the group that a random couple had just paid for their meal, the look on their faces was priceless, as was their reaction as they said (nearly in tears), 'we go out regularly together and the next time we are out we are going to pay for someone's meal to pass on the kindness.'"
Commenters flooded the post with reactions to the heartfelt random act of kindness.
"I was one of the staff members with this amazing group, and we just wanted to say again a massive thank you to that very kind and generous couple. We were all shocked, so thankfully," one Facebook user claimed to be with the group whose meal was paid for. We can't wait to pass it on."
"That's an incredible story to read," said a second. Kindness reigns supreme."
"Wow, just wow," said another user. "This completely restores my faith in humanity," said a fourth, while another added, "This nearly made me cry... Things like this renew my faith in humanity. "Thank you for sharing."
"It's great to read some good news. It makes a change from all the doom and gloom," said another, "and that's an amazing story to read."
The restaurant has invited the generous couple for a free meal "on us" in appreciation for their highly thoughtful act.
