Affordable rental apartments planned on derelict site in north Dublin

DUBLIN, Ireland: Dublin City Council and Cluid Housing have unveiled plans to transform a vacant site in Cabra into an affordable rental housing development.

The project aims to address the ongoing housing crisis by providing rental homes for those priced out of the private market.

Councilors were briefed on the proposal during a meeting this week, where officials outlined plans for 145 affordable rental apartments, along with car and bicycle parking facilities. The development will also include a community space and a creche to support local families.

Fine Gael councilor Colm O'Rourke, a Cabra resident, expressed optimism about the project: "Over the years, I have received many requests from Cabra residents for more housing like this, so I know this will be welcomed by many."

However, he acknowledged concerns from nearby residents regarding parking, traffic, and building heights. "That's why it's important for residents to engage with the Council on this, and I have asked that the Council properly consults with residents on this," he said.

To facilitate community input, Dublin City Council will host a public display of the plans on Thursday, March 13, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Cabra Parkside Community Sports Centre in John Paul II Park (The Bogies).

Encouraging residents to participate, O'Rourke added, "Whether you support the development or have concerns, I strongly encourage residents to attend the public display, ask questions, and share views. This is a significant project for Cabra, and it is vital that all residents' voices are heard."
